First Aid Advice - Poisoning

A poisonous substance can damage the body, temporarily or permanently. It can be taken accidentally, for example by a child, or intentionally.

The effects of poisoning depend on the substance that has been swallowed

No immediate first aid is available for cases of poisoning. Medical help should be sought immediately

When speaking to the medical personnel give as much information as possible relating to the substance involved. Where possible hand over bottles (whether empty or full) to the medical crew to help with further treatment

Never try to make the patient vomit if they’ve swallowed poison.

Vomiting may make the condition worse by damaging the stomach and the tubes that carry the food to the stomach.
